At PT Doors, we firmly believe that the installation of a garage door is not a do-it-yourself job. A garage door is the largest moving object in your home and because of the large number of small parts; its installation is highly technical. Connecting the springs can be particularly dangerous and proper installation is critical to the performance of your garage door. One of the other services a professional installer can provide is the disposal of your old door.

Professional installers can typically install a door in a few hours and are careful to make sure safety requirements are met. Installations by most homeowners typically span several days and cause much frustration. In addition, incorrect installation can void certain warranties, so we recommend a professional handle the job for you.

1. Steel doors are low maintenance. (Typically a timber door needs to be stained or oiled every 12 months)
2. Steel doors have longer warranties than timber doors.
3. Steel doors can be insulated, making them far more energy efficient than timber.

PT Doors will properly remove and dispose of your old garage door when we install a new garage door at no additional cost.

PT Doors recommends replacing your track when you replace your door because each brand of garage door has been specially designed to work with a specific type of track. In addition, replacing your track is an inexpensive way to insure that your entire garage door system is as safe as possible. By replacing your track you also ensure that your door warranty will apply, in the event that you have a problem.

Yes. Your professional garage door installer can install a sectional door for you by installing track and springs to accommodate a sectional door. Depending on the construction of your garage, other modifications might be necessary. We would advise you to ask your installer to evaluate the job prior to installation, so that any modifications can be performed before installation.

The minimum amount of headroom will vary depending on the type of garage door. For more information on the amount of headroom your garage door will require please view Garage Door Overview

There are several tests you can perform to tell if your door is balanced:
You should be able to raise your door in 1” increments and the door should stay in place where you stop it.
When the door comes down, it lowers in a controlled manner and doesn’t slam.
When the door goes up, it is at a controlled pace.
The bottom of the door should align with the bottom of the header when the door is in a raised position.

If a garage door opener has been installed on your door, it may not be necessary to have a lock. Newer automatic openers function as the lock, making it improbable that an intruder would be able to lift your door from the outside. If you have an older opener, check to see if your door can be lifted from the outside.

IDA, the trade association for the garage door industry, discourages homeowners from attaching a lock when an opener has been installed, because too frequently, a child or other family member will accidentally lock the door. If someone then tries to open the door using the electric opener, the opener will pull against the lock causing the door to be damaged.

If no opener is installed on your garage door, you should certainly have a lock installed.

Instructions will vary depending on the brand of the garage door opener, please see below for instructions on some of the more well-known brands. If you require further assistance please contact our office on 02 9785 3219 to arrange a call-out.

To operate any automatic garage door, a sharp tug on the emergency cord will disengage your motor, allowing the door to be opened by hand. The door should rise and fall with little effort.

Sectional/Tilt Doors
A sharp tug when the cord is at a 45 degree angle from the ground, towards the motor, will enable the arm attached to the cord (currently pointing towards the ground) to spring up and point towards the motor.

Roller Doors
Pull on either the lever or clutch attached to the motor in the opposite direction for disengagement until you hear it click

Check that the motor is plugged into the power point and that the power is turned on. If it is, please supplement with another electrical appliance to ensure that the socket is live.

Push the “Manual or Open Stop Close” button on your motor. This button can be found either on the front or back of the motor; however some motors will not have this button. By pushing that button once, it will activate your door. If it is operational, there could be an issue with your remotes, perhaps change the batteries in the remotes.

If unable to ascertain what is causing the problem, please refer to “How to I operate the garage door manually” question above.

PT Doors is a long-established garage door company that works in strict compliance with national laws and industry accreditations. PT Doors is an Accredited Contractor with Trades Monitor and a Strata Services Specialist Company.

Contractors vs. full time employees
All PT Doors installers are full-time employees; this is an important distinction, as in some cases contractors paid for the ‘gig’ only might consider it their aim is to get the job done quickly and move onto the next. They don’t get paid to take their time, to explain how the product works, etc. PT Doors trains its staff from scratch, paying them a wage and added benefits to ensure that they can spend that little bit of extra time and care to get the job done right the first time making sure that the customer understands how to use the door, the purpose of the battery backup, what to do in the event of a black out, etc.

Cheap is expensive
As a member of the AGDA, PT Doors is committed to providing customers with high quality products, custom made to be the most functional and stylish on the market, and superior customer service. We never sacrifice quality and responsibility in the name of providing bargain rates. Cheap garage doors, with all of their repair costs and long-range replacement fees, cost more in the long run.

PT Doors offers an on-site warranty on most of our garage door products. PT Doors will provide full warranty details at the initial site inspection session, while discussing your individual requirements and informing you in regards to the warranty length, what is covered and planned servicing intervals.

Where products are made?
PT Doors is an Australian company in every sense of the word up to and including its products. Wherever possible, we try to limit the use of internationally made building materials. Steel for our doors is Australian made with Colorbond/BlueScope steel. Our Grifco commercial motors are made in Gosford, tilt doors are made in Sydney, Colorbond roller and sectional doors are made here in Sydney, and custom-made sectional doors are made from timber here in Australia.

After sales service
Beyond installing garage doors & openers, PT Doors also provides maintenance throughout the lifetime of the product, and considers every sale the start of a long relationship with every customer.

PT Doors holds all relevant and required insurances relating to the industry, as well as full Workers and Business Certificates of Currency.

With its impressive size, separate entrance and plentiful flex space, a garage seems the ideal place for a rental room. A garage, after all, is a place where dust, dirt and water can penetrate, even beneath a closed, locked door.

In order to transform a garage, you need a garage door sealing system that will keep the air and interior of the unit clean, healthy and pleasant for your renter.

The Cleverseal COBRA is a garage door sealing system designed specifically for Roller & Sectional doors. This strong all in one system can be purchased as a kit, comprising the side jam seals, the head seal & the floor seal, or individually.

The sealing system enlists corrosion resistant extruded aluminium with a heavy-duty brush seal to manage the elements blocking out the dirt and dust, the leaves and debris, as you protect.

Further, by motorising your garage door, you will enable and empower your renter to lock and secure your door at any time; providing an extra layer of safety and reassurance, especially at night. In addition, you also will make it much easier for the renter to open and close their door.

In Australia, it is even against the law to conduct electrical and plumbing tasks on your own accord; this owing to their level of danger or cost. And the Australian consumer group CHOICE has specified garage door repairs among a selection of DIY home renovation projects you should never try on your own.

Only a licensed, qualified professional should attempt electrical and plumbing tasks; and at this time, it is still legal for a tradesperson to visit a home and perform essential repairs.

Fixing a roll-up garage door ranks no. 7 on CHOICE’s list of home repairs that do not translate well to DIY projects. A garage door is a high-powered home fixture consisting of many interlocked electrical components; not to mention a heavy and unyielding object that can be difficult to move and maneuver with any degree of safety and security. And if you do complete a garage door repair safely, you may find yourself investing a great deal of money in the project, with less than optimum results.

PT Doors offers insulated garage door panels that keep your garage cooler in summer and warmer in winter. These doors deliver the added benefit of providing sound insulation as well. In busy locations where outside traffic noise could pose a problem, they keep the noise out and the quiet in; and if you happen to use your garage as a workshop, they also reduce the amount of noise transferring outside as well.

Due to the frameless construction of our insulated doors, pests have nowhere to nest; leaving the doors with a crisp, clean look, inside and out. These doors’ intrinsic Thermopanels come complete with increased impact resistance due to its exquisite foam density, and coupled with fire rated side and top seals provide excellent fire protection.

A safety feature of the PE Beams is sensing if something is in its way and stopping the door from going up or down.

Imaging if that was a child, your spouse or loved one who got caught as the door was closing. If that door was able to go down and someone was under it they would be hurt. So when you call for a quote on a new motor ask us about the MYQ bundle for panel or roller doors. It might save a life.
